About Polar Bottle

Robert Heiberger and Judy Amabile founded Product Architects, Inc. (Polar Bottle) in 1994 from a garage in Boulder, Colorado. As avid cyclists and budding entrepreneurs, they wanted to develop a bottle unlike anything else on the market that would keep liquids cool during long rides. Robert, a mechanical engineer with experience working with heat loss in the field of medical technology design, adapted his expertise to create the insulated Polar Bottle water bottle. From there, he and Judy began making the reusable insulated water bottles by hand with plastics sourced from Denver, Colorado that they picked up themselves in a family mini van. At that time, Polar Bottle had one employee, Nechko Gazibara, who helped produce bottles while Judy and Robert traveled around Colorado selling the product to individual bike shops.

Since the original Polar Bottle Sport bottle was first introduced, it has undergone continual improvements to both form and function. In 1998, a removable valve system was added to the cap to facilitate cleaning, and In 2006, the bottle’s entire aesthetic was updated with a sleeker body design, the addition of a carrying strap, and the introduction of a variety of colored liners. In 2010, the company added several new graphic designs to their existing array of colored liners and, in response to consumer feedback, reduced the thickness of the plastic walls to make the bottle easier to squeeze.

Today, Polar Bottle has grown to a company of about 50 employees but have remained true to its roots.  After 18 years, Nechko is still with the company, Judy and Robert still play an active role in sales, marketing and product development and remain committed to philanthropy and advocacy, particularly within the cycling community that helped them establish their roots back when they started in 1994.
